Default Bilbo might be a no-go

Production of the two 'Hobbit' movies might be terminated due to legal action taken by JRR Tolkiens' heirs, so say they haven't seen any royalties from the 3 Lord of The Rings movies.

This will be settled. New Line will easily pay up in exchange for the billions The Hobbit will bring in.

The 3 LOTR movies were released in 2001-03 and have supposedly generated more than $6 billion - in that time the heirs claim to have received no royalties at all.

Think they'd be justified in demanding a fairly hefty upfront payment given that track record.

Will be interesting to see how well the blu-ray versions of LOTR sell

According to ye olde IMDB

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0903624/

he's an executive producer and co-writer. Guillermo del Toro will be the director.

The dispute between Jacko and New Line was evidentally settled in late 2007

If corporations are no longer safe from government persecution for dirty business practices, then Hollywood film executives should not be either. If there's a contract of payment, they'd better pay.

However, I don't care much for the Tolkien family and the way they handle Mr. Tolkien's estate.
I don't have anything tangible to back that up with though. Mostly heresay.

I don't even have heresay, but I feel the same way.

Another vote for what you say on both sides Larry.

New line seem to have a poor track record in paying out money. Their slimy dealings have cost them the chance of having Peter Jackson do the directing. And IIRC the rights for the hobbit film run out soon so if new line do not get going they will miss out on the film totally. Maybe someone can confirm this?

I thought that a Hobbit movie would be very cool, althought i can see where it could be botched. Although, Mr. Jackson was a very good choice for the first three.

Just went and checked and as I thought, a settlement was made.

"In September 2009, a settlement was reached, with New Line paying the Estate an undisclosed sum. J. R. R. Tolkien's son and literary executor Christopher Tolkien said in a statement: "New Line may now proceed with its proposed films of The Hobbit."".

They wanted the de niro.
