Howdy,
Sims 3 is due to hit the shelves next week - wondering if anybody has pre-ordered it or will be fronting up early to get a gen-you-wine copy in their hot little hands ? I'll be deferring until around Xmas - by then there should be plenty of feedback, a patch or three and much speculation about the contents of the first six Expansion Packs ![]() Regardless, it'll be a frontrunner for best selling PC game of 2009, methinks. I'm gonna grab it from my local EBgames. Not obsessed enough with it to pre-order, but I am a fan of the franchise. My problem is, I always play the sims for like a week then I get bored with it. With the sims 2 I did this, then I got a good deal on the expansions deluxe edition, went back to it, then after a week I had done everything and stopped. It's not got longevity for me.
I hope the Sims 3 has this. I am really looking forward to the seamless "united" neighbourhood idea. In the Sims 2, I rarely had time to go anywhere due to transitions, time constraints and the fact that i'd come back to find the rest of my sims died in a fire or something stupid. From what I have seen in the interviews they have changed this, and EA basically say your sims will "take care of themselves while you're out". I hope so. Micro managment is not fun, unless there is a reward for it. They need to abolish bathroom breaks and hunger too although I think they're still there in the Sims 3. Random events are fun, monotonous sleep cycles are not. I will write back when I buy it to tell you my thoughts, but despite my criticism of the Sims 1 and 2, I am optimistic about part 3.

Things to do in a Sims game.
wake up -> cook -> eat -> wash plate -> pee/s... -> bath -> go to work -> go home -> pee/s... -> bath -> cook -> eat -> watch tv/or other entertainment -> sleep. Repeat and repeat. Will Sims 3 be different? We shall see. ![]() |

Heh, when I play the Sims 2, I generally deliberately kill them, just to see how many different ways I can do it. Fire is boring. Scared by multiple ghosts is okay, but not fantastic. And old age is just stupid. Oh well, at least I save my evil for virtual life. Maybe I should stick to Sacred and Wizards & Warriors, where you're meant to destroy people...

I had some 'accidents' in the original game, but the only fatality in Sims 2 was a cheerleader at Uni who stayed around the dorm too long (awww....). Was able to bargain with the Big D for her revival anyhow. Maybe I'm getting soft as I get older/ancienter ![]() |

I used to use the cheat to turn off aging. If I don't I find my sims have all turned 65 and they barely learned learned how to cook. Death from ghosts? Never seen that, didn't know they could die, but I guess it makes sense.

I found turning the aging off was almost mandatory early in the piece, especially if relying on having a specific pair of sims meet. Fortunately the expansion packs have solved most problems. The fountain of youth goop means you can send the teen sims to uni with 10 points in everything ![]() @Memnoch, addictive indeed, along with designing and building various domiciles ![]() |

Yeah, I really liked the influence rewards or whatever they were called. That helmet thing that would allow you to change your lifetime aspiration. Remember the "Grilled Cheese" aspiration? LOL, I actually loved it because it would allow me to fulfill their Wants really easily. Things like this are what is fun about the Sims.

fun indeed. ![]() Wonder if something like this is possible in Sims 3 without multiple Expansion Packs : Primary aspiration : pleasure seeker Secondary aspiration : grilled cheese Interests : playing cards, going bowling, singing rowdy folk songs. Career path : slacker (natch) Favourite food : grilled ![]() Last edited by Kezardin; 06-01-2009 at 10:11 AM. |
