Folks,
I'm trying to compile another list of 20 things that one absolutely must see and/or do, this time in New york City. Anyone have any suggestions for me? TIA ![]()

Central Park - very full
Bronx Zoo - I remember it being nice in 2003 Take a look at Manhattan from the west side of Brooklyn Prospect Park - much less full and the same size as Central Park. Bit less well kept, but still quite nice. etc...

See some singer-songwriter music at the Bitter End on Bleecker st. or some Jazz at the Blue note, or some funk/soul at cafe Wha (all in the Village) or Jazz at Lincoln Center. Other spots are "Pianos" and "the Living Room" in Alphabet City. Carnegie Hall always has incredible music too.
Listen to a Tim Keller sermon at Redeemer church. Or A.R. Bernard at CCC in Brooklyn. Or Dave Wilkerson at Times Square Church. Eat dinner at "Bona Fides" restaurant on 2nd btwn 3rd and 4th. Great and affordable food in a stunningly ambient atmosphere. (I take all my guests to NYC there.) Other cool restaurants I've gone to are "Coffee Shop" in Union Square (which you should visit anyway), and for meat "Quality Meats" is sensational. Take a ride on the circle line ferry around the entire island of manhattan. Take the free Staten Island Ferry to Staten Island and back. Hang out in Central park, and walk through it, or take a ride in the horse and buggy through the park. Watch the Yankees. Walk around the piers down the west side, or walk down from 14th down to Battery Park. Check out Park Slope in Brooklyn, and Prospect Park nearby. See an indie film at any of the small indie film cinemas in Tribeca or the Village. Check out Soho! Shop for some clothes there, or at some second hand places, one on 14th street? and one on second near St. Marks (you should check out St. Marks st anyway) See some stand up comedy! If Stingy Lulu's is still around that had some. There are some great comedy shows playing at the Triad theatre on 72nd. Check out Williamsburg for music, clothes and to wander through the Hassidic areas to travel back in time. Check out Woodlawn up in the Bronx to feel like you're in Ireland, or head down to Manhattan Beach to "little Russia by the sea". There's a very nice village fish soup served in a Russian restaurant down near Manhattan beach itself. Walk along the boardwalk of that whole beach down to Coney Island and Nathan's hotdogs, and the fairground. So much to do and see in NYC.... Make sure you have some conversations with New Yorkers! (one great thing about churches) The conversational quality of New Yorkers impressed me immensely when I visited the first time. |
