First, let me give you the situation. My Latin teacher also coaches for the school cheerleading squad. I am assuming there is something big coming up, as they have been telling students lately to buy T-shirts and such to show support. Anyways, my teacher told the class a few days ago that whoever bought a T-shirt for $12 would be assigned a 100 on their next quiz grade. What I'm wondering is, is this ethical? Isn't this considered bribery? A student paying a teacher, for an item, but also a good grade; sounds like bribery.
Now, I'm not bashing on teachers, or ranting off and on at any level, but just wanted to know. A curious mind needs answering. Thanx all. |

Maybe the T-shirt has the answers on it?

That sounds very unethical! Buying T-shirts has nothing to do with school work and shouldn´t be rewarded with higher marks.

That is STRICTLY not ethical, and should be raised before the school board. One's grades should not be tied into any purchases of school spirit material. That school is leaving itself wide open for a lawsuit; several lawsuits, in fact.

No, it is definitely unethical. But not uncommon, I fear...

One of the reasons that makes it so wrong is that some people might not be able to afford the cost of the shirt, therefore losing a good grade over the fact that their parents might be poor.
Credit on a non-acedemic item. Bad move on the part of the teacher. She's already lost her job, and could cause big trouble for the school if she is not stopped.

Ethical ?? Definately not.
Legal ?? Well, knowing how screwed up the law seems to be in most places, it wouldn`t surprise me . |

This isn't right. Maybe a few extra points for coming back with your progress signed, but 100 points on your next quiz for buying a T-Shirt?
