Entirely depends on what your character is and what you want from a party. He rocks as a single class fighter, but can also be dualed into a mage (has 18 int) or a thief (17 dex)
Considering Jan is the only thief who can level up in ToB I'd say go with the thief option if you're going to dual class. Imoen, Edwin or Nalia are all already good mages. Still, I imagine he'd make a great fighter-mage. |

I thought about dual classing him into a thief but decided against it. It turned out that I was very glad for that decision and kept increasing his levels as a fighter. He was very valuable to me in the end as a fighter.

He's one awesome tank with enormous power if you don't dual class him. I used him as such, and never regretted it.
