I think that I have lost the key to the shadow theives cellar. (didn't I get this from Gaelen?) What do I need it for? And if I have lost it (what the hell--if I did have it I have definitely lost), am I screwed or is there some way to get it back

Well, if your wanting the thieves as allies and you haven't met up with them, you will need the key. If you can reload back to before you got the key, you could go that route, but if not, there is a program called Shadow Keeper that can help edit the key back onto one of your characters. It does take a little time to get used to, but it's a very good program. Don't worry about it messing up your save games though as it will rename it to something else. If you've already joined up with the thieves then it won't matter as you have already used it. If you don't already have the patch for BGII, then I would recommend getting it. There is a known bug that causes some items to disappear when you do a save game. Don't know why that is, but they seem to have fixed it with the patch. If not and you are on multi-player games, I can e-mail you a character with the key and you can transfer it that way too. With whatever you do, good luck.

Hmmm. There is a CLUAConsole command that can do it too, but I'm not sure what that is. I don't really use that. You can look that up under cheats on the board too, and it should give you an idea. I'd still recommend Shadow Keeper though as it does have a lot more capabilities and stuff. Don't let it's power overwhelm you though. I would recommend not changing your stats and stuff or the game may start to get a bit boring to you. Just find the key and add it in somewhere you have an empty inventory slot.
