I fully recommend you check out their first album uss. I find it alot better than their second ('Rated R') in that it is alot more raw and Josh Homme's voice is alot more melodic.
Queens of the Stone Age (QotSA) are not an incredibly famous band but they have grown quite well-known amongst the 'stoner rock' (a stupid term used to categorize a sort of sludgy, down-grooved music originating out of california in the mid-90's) crowd, and as such have developed a considerable cult following. They have several ex-members of the band 'Kyuss', who are essentially the most famous of the 'stoner rock' bands and considered by most as the front-runners of the genre (Kyuss disbanded in 1995). In recent years, with the release of 'Rated R' (2000) QotSA have enjoyed a more main-stream popularity being at the Ozzfest, appearing on popular movie soundtracks and appearing in interviews in more accessable music magazines. All in all a great band, and a new album is in the works. Was to be released March 2002, but it has since been postponed, goddammit. Also, Dave Grohl (Nirvana and Foo Fighters) will be playing on the new QotSA album. He has been a fan of both Kyuss and QotSA since the early days. Right on!

New album is planned for August, IIRC. Great band indeed.
