I need some infos about old old games that would still work under win xp / 2000.
May it be through a specific patch or by luck Please post game titles here if you know any and are sure that it will work under xp/2000. If it requires a specific patch please say it as well Thx for any input you can give me [ 02-20-2003, 06:51 AM: Message edited by: Masklinn ]

You are asking for waaay too much information dude
All I can say, is that if you work at it, you can get the Xcom series and most older games to work under XP..the only games I have failed with so far is the original Ultima 7 series of games. |

Nah i m not asking how to make they work. I just want the titles. Then if you managed to make them work, then I should be able to as well
If you managed to play a very old game under XP/2000 just let me know, that is all I want to make some kind of compendium (is that the right word ?) and then after that maybe a site. For now, I'm sure of these ones only : - Transport Tycoon Deluxe (XP/2000) - Master of Magic (XP) - Ultima 7 (XP/2000) (there is a patch actually!) Now I'm sure that these ones won't work at all : - Commandos 1 (2000) (might work on XP - need to try) - Constructor (XP/2000) (This game wants a SVGA driver only) etc... Well there is no definit yes or no to any old game. Some people dedicate a huge amount of time to create patches that will allow you to run older games on newer systems. TTD is a good example. I´ve also managed to get The Settlers to run on w2k. I´m trying to get Colonization to work but I haven´t been able to fix that one.

Heh yeah I was gonna say Transport Tycoon Deluxe. I've also got the Settlers to work on W2K same as Willow. Another game that they've made an unofficial windows patch for is Elite 3: First Encounters , brilliant game I haven't tried Elite 2 or the original Elite.
You know what your best bet is right? Get PartitionMagic - this can shift partitions up and resize them without destroying data. Shift your windows partition up by 200 megabytes or so. Create a FAT-32 partition at the start of your drive. Install DOS! There ya go, now you can play all your old games.

But as soon as you have a Win95 version of a game you have more chance to make it work under the OS we have nowadays. I will have to do some research about that one. I miss my good ol' Colonization If I find something I'll let you know Willow.

Though I'd like some easier ways than that. I really want to make something accessible by everyone, like changing some settings in winXP, installing patches and such.

Depends on the age of the game. If it's a DOS based game it's pretty safe to assume your SOL. Make a DOS boot disk, and anytime you want to play an older game just boot from the floppy. You'll need to make sure you've got FAT16 or FAT32 on your primary HD partition though, or you won't be able to access it.

I've been trying to get X-Com UFO Defende to run on my win2000. I already have a FAT32 partition but still can't get it to install correctly. (This is the collector's edition which runs on Win95/98.) What happens is that when clicking on the game it appears that the screen is stretched and sized wrong. Even when I 3 finger salute; the task manager screen is so oversized that i cannot make any choices. If anybody has any ideas I'd appreciate the help.
