Does anyone else use the Kensai character class?

The character absolutely rules, but I can't get the armor class down very low. Does anyone know of an item that can be used, as the Kensai cannot use any form of armor. Perhaps something you can get later on in the game.

All I can use at the moment is a ring of protection +2

Kensai cant use helmets or bracers, but they can equip Ioun stones. There are several Ioun stones that boost AC. In TOB theres Wong Feis Ioun stone which is made specifiacally for kensai. TOB is much more kensai friendly and has several weapons that will boost AC, including a katana. Needless to say, a Kensai should really have a very high DEX to compensate for lack of armor. A ring of Gax (if you ever come across one) works in concert with other protection items, like a cloak+2, and will give another +2.
Kensai are made for dual classing. Kensai are actually pretty weak by themselves...they get some small bonuses to hit and such, and theres the small inate boost to AC, and of course the Kai shot is allright but nothing to compare with the greater whirlwind that all fighters get in TOB. Your best bet is to dual him into a mage so he can wear robes, or if you have TOB, into a theif so he can get the use any item ability and wear some specialized theif boosting items. My Kensai/mage has a -8 AC.

That's the price you pay for being a kensai. They aren't tanks and shouldn't be used in stand-up battles, they're quick-strike killing machines able to deal out huge amounts of damage in a very short time. Kind of like a shock trooper.
