Does anyone here play Project Entropia? It seems to be a rather interesting MMORPG that has been around since 1995 (although the graphics are definately up-to-date) that has no subscription fee, but does have a real economy. (pay for what you buy) Since the virtual economy is linked to the real economy, it is possible to make a nice profit with clever ingame investments. Or the opposite of course.. last thing I read, an Australian bought his own for 26000 dollars. Although that was a little while ago. Anyway.. if you're interested: http://www.project-entropia.com/about/Index.ajp

It looks an interesting concept, especially the conversions between $s and PEDs, but it sure wouldn't be a good idea if you're bad at MMORPGs! The piggy bank would soon be empty!

Do you need to use money to get anywhere in the game, or can you just play the game normally, ignoring the real money aspect of it?

I don't know. But it wouldn't be logical to allow people to accumulate the local currency through quests. That would lead to people grinding the same quests over and over again for money.

A unique aspect of Project Entropia is that a player may elect to transfer PED back into real life currency, thereby enabling them to earn real money while playing an online computer game.

Yeah, I could definitely see that. That's a very interesting approach to the game, I might actually give it a try... Heh, it's a good thing City of Heroes doesn't do this, when you reach level 50 you basically have 36+ million influence. Imagine the possibilities...
