I have a very big problem...
I uninstalled BG2 to change the drive I had it on.. now upon attempt to reinstall, it asks for a Disk 5. AFAIK, there are Disks 1-4. and thats all ive ever had!!
If it has anything to do with the problem: I had the Bonus Merchants and the Happy Scripts from Baldurdash and the official Patch needed at MPlayer and i cant do a system restore to get BG2 back (before i uninstalled it) because I dont have any restore points.

So anything short of Formatting My Hard Drive will be greatly appreciated.

Go to www.bioware.com, then to the BG2 troubleshooting page. This is a reported bug, and I believe they have a fix for it.

Yes, as Memnoch said.. Personally I have had this happen after I uninstalled BG2 and then re-installed, but it isn't nothing what some little registry cleaning cannot fix The CD5 thingie comes from those bonus or whatever merchants I think..

If you are familiar on how to clear the registry, you can just uninstall it, clear the registry of all the mess related to Baldur's Gate, Bioware, Black Isle, Interplay and then re-install it. Does the trick for me every time.

And Whailor ? My Mother has already done some registry cleaning (im never aloud to go in there... even though I know as much as she does, if not more about software..) It no Longer has anything BlackIsle, INterplay, Bioware or BG2, still asking for that CD5, but thanx anyway.

EDIT: Just tried that Site, I dont think u spelt it right somehow, the page isnt there! (anoying old the page cannot be displayed), and I refreshed several times. So can u direct to other sites u know of or possibly even directly to the troubleshooting page ?? Thanx

This may or may not help:

Are you installing the game from more than one station?

I tried to install once having disc #one in my regular CD-player and disk #two in my CD-writer then switching #one for #three and #two four #four. When the program finished installing disc #four it also asked for disk #five. I broke off the installation but couldn't play the game so I removed the data from my harddisk and reinstalled, this time using only one station and it worked fine. Note: This only happened when I did a full install!!

www.bioware.com _is_ the official bioware website and it works just fine as of 12:22 GMT.

since this problem is caused by the registry id suggest your mother missed something. if your careful you could probably fix it yourself, but check out the bioware patch for this issue anyhow, its easier.

oh and sook, purple on brown isnt a very good colour combination either. light blue was good, white was good, purple just dosent work.

I had this same problem. Apparently disk 5 is the bonus CD and when you installed the official patch with the bonus merchants it logged it into your computer that you had the bonus CD. When you Uninstall BG2 InstallShield will leave traces of it all over your computer effectively making the computer believe that you have the 5 disk set.

Wow. You should have seen the look on my face when I saw this thread on page 1.
Ok, 4 months later... no success. I have tried EVERYTHING... including redownloading the bonus Merchants, and pointing install shield to that file when it said "Please insert disk 5 or specify the location where it is located"
Then I tried on the laptop. Same thing... since it couldnt copy data2.cat when I tried copying every file from the CD over, id say disk 1 is scratched. Or done the blackisle overheat disk through having too much ink thing.
