Hello all,

Long time lurker. Played through a few times, but I've never actually finished because even on Expert difficulty/Ironman I always get bored at the end when my party seems too overpowered. With this in mind -- I've created a new Expert/Ironman party:

Lizardman Samurai (Vit/Str first - Swords/Bow)
Human Monk (Dex/Str first - Martial arts and Bo)
Felpurr Ninja (Str/Sen first - throwing/swords/dagger)
Elf Bishop (Int/Wis first)

What's so hard about this party? Two things. First, I'm spreading my points thin for everyone by trying to max several weapons in addition to their magic. Second, I'm not going to use any overpowered weapons. This means Bloodlust, CoC, Staff of Doom, Fang and the rest are all out.

I'm in Arnika now and am enjoying myself. Anyone else tried something similar?

Welcome leptomeninges...

Interesting idea but just one question...

ARE YOU NUTS?!?!

I'm just playing... The only thing I could say is that, the early stages of the game are much harder than the future (or so it seems). You are really going to have trouble in the begining. As for later, that is pretty cool that you are willing to take that risk but hey MORE POWER TO YA.

Personally I wouldn't "walk the tightrope" but I'm sure someone else has...

I'm still playing on novice!! lol Though I have owned the game since it was first released, I have only really been playing it for the last 3 or 4 months. I didn't know about the forums when I first got the game and I was always getting my butt handed to me on a plate and got fed up and quit playing for a good 6 months. When I decided to give it another go, I discovered the forums and got some great tips on how to properly develope the different classes, how to use magic effectively and how to use terrain to my advantage. I feel I have enough experience under my belt now to try the game on a more difficult setting so I will be playing my next party on normal mode.

Welcome to the boards leptomeninges!!

If by your question you mean non optimal parties like an all faerie party or a lizzie bishop then there have been some like those on the boards, but I haven't heard about anyone who did not want to use the best weapons.

welcome to IW lepto!

if you develop your party and characters well, the end of the game can be a bit of a letdown. i guess if you wanted to make it really difficult you could always let one or more party members die...

i'm with dplax on always using the best available. however, i seem to recall a post some time ago where someone said they just use whatever and dont worry about it and didnt have too rough a time of it. sorry i cant remember who or recall any more detail about how it worked out.

but intentionally doing it? whew. ASG is right. you're nuts!

I put a foursome through (all Hobbits; Fighter, Bishop, Bard, Gad), with no PP, no killing NPC's for items and no reloads for chest or mob drops (Normal difficulty). Still had enough high-end weapons, though, and i think 4 is the smallest i'd try with only mundane weapons, but i'd prolly rather be on Novice for that.
Much harder was a totally illiterate trio (Fi-Fi-Ro)--the only magic they had came from artifacts and thrown stuff. Love those Rocket Stix!!!
