Irenicus is dreadfully easy, unless you have done next to none of the side-quests and are very low level. Probably is safe to fight him anywhere from level 16-20.

The cure spells do not hurt undead- but you might find a monster in one of the stronghold quests that takes these as damage...

for Irenicus, do not turn into the slayer and use a reflection shield to send all his magic missiles back at him and he'll kill himself
