Hey guys,

I just got RFS-81. I was wondering if its better to keep him without weapons or give him a burning spear or somthing to increase the damage. I was afraid this could slow him down, or he could just be more powerful without them.

I also have another question, Is there anywhere that i can buy arrows that do more than 3-7 damage? My ranger is only hitting for 4-9 each time when the rest of my group hits from 10-40 or so. He is really just slackin without these arrows.

Would appreciate any help, thanks

RFS is a great RPC, the best IMO because he goes everywhere (just about) and you can get him reasonably early. So you're going to want to make him as good as you can so you can to keep him the whole way through. I left him using fists, plus a sling and bullets. He does a lot of damage using martial arts, and he has great initiative and lots of attacks per round. IMHO he's best left unarmed

I really liked RFS, and I really like him unarmed. Some will say use the z-bo when you get that, but for me, at least, by the time I got that, he kicked so much butt with his fists of fury that I didn't bother. I'd also have to agree-he's the best RPC (and his insanity laugh is hilarious)

As far as your ranger goes, try to at least keep him outfitted with barbed arrows. Once you get to Ferro, you'll have a good supply of mystic arrows, but until then, use barbed (or hunter quarrels on an xbow) I would also advise getting the greenwood bow from Crock. It is ranger-only, and includes a 1% kill on it, which actually increased my crits from the tripleshot xbow. I think it has damage bonus, too. Also, after you've maxxed senses and dex, start working on str. The bonus is half what it is for melee combat, but it will still make a difference for you.

It also depends on your party's formation. If you don't have room to put RFS up front, then put him in the center with a Dread Spear from Bela. The 50% Hex is great and does better damage than a burning spear or mystic spear.

He will be good with hands and feets. But if you want him to use zatoichi bo early, then start developing staff skill immediately with a hayia bo or something so that he will be good using it later.

The zatoichi bo is great for extended reach, paralyzing, KO, damage and instant kills. It's a really powerful weapon and it's sad for it to go to waste IMO. I had my spell-casting samurai use it in my last party, and it was great. But a monk with hands and feets is good too, even though I prefer extended reach, paralyzing and KO's to damage. I don't think there is much difference in damage with hands and feets and zatoichi bo though, but maybe you will have increased chances to critical kill enemies with hands and feets because you get so many more attacks and swings. On the other hand the zatoichi bo has a pretty high critical percentage.

Anyway, with the low staff&wand skill that RFS-81 has, it probably is better to just use martial arts and sling. It is better to have it stable throughout the game rather than "not so good for a certain time of the game" to become master in the end. It sort of depends when you will get the zatoichi bo. I got it really early in my last game, but I guess most people get it pretty late.

I concur, Fist of Fury all the way. And just for kicks, cast Superman(7) on him

Another option if you like the zbo that much-use martial arts as the primary and the bo as secondary..there are quite a few times when the extended reach can be handy. You'd lose a ranged attack with that sling, but you'll likely be closing in to melee after one or two rounds (if that). You can close on a monster, swap your weapons, and have RFS go after something that is out of range for your close-up fighters that they will likely cream in a round anyway, too. Once again...all a matter of how you want to play your character.

Just a note:
I tried once to play RFS-81 with martial arts and staff, but it didn't quite work out as I had planned. If you put him on the flank, he will mostly just use staff, and if you put him in front he will almost always just use hands and feets. And since he had no ranged weapon equipped, I had to do a lot of walking and running, or have him do nothing, just standing there as a robot shield.
