I am in the Gigas caves and went to the service panel and can't get the back panel to come off to I can attempt to reconnect the wires. Am I missing something?

Did you try your pass first on the front panel? You should get a message and then the thing dies. I walked around back and had no trouble accessing the wires (two games).

Did you activate the machine with your pass in the first place? You must activate it first b4 it kaBOOM and then the back panel flies out..... otherwise it is really a bug.
