Reading some old threads, Azred said this about the characters history.

You were raised by your mother: A high priestess of Bhaal.
When the priestesses all planned to sacrifice all Bhaal-spawn in one go to resurrect Bhaal, Gorion and his white wizards attacked and saved you, Imoen and Sarevok himself whilst other spawn fled. He had to abandone on of you because the priestesses where so powerful and was catching up.
He dropped Sarevok. And hence Sarevok's hatred....blah

What I want to know is, where did he get this information about the raising, and abandonment of Sarevok.

Well, we discover similar information in Throne of Bhaal... but Gorion only rescues Charname. Perhaps it's from a book?

And how did Imoen get adopted by Winthrop rather than Gorion? Or rather why did Gorion choose to raise charname himself while having Winthrop raise Imoen. How did he choose which infant to keep?

that's right, it comes from a dialogue in ToB. I've never read any BG books, so I wouldn't know anything else...
