I consistently see threads talking about going through on HoF mode. I just want to know if anybody besides me enjoys a regular run though better? I like building a more "standard" party, with tanks that are useful, and only a few spellchuckers rather than the HoF parties which need more summoners to be successful.

I find that in HoF, only certain strategies work. It's funner to me to explore the engine using different strategies, and that's much more easily doable in regular mode.
I think everyone should go through HoF mode once, because it's very intense, but also rewarding. But doing it time after time, while still challenging, doesn't interest me personally as much, because I find myself doing the same things merely in order to survive. The items and challenge are fun, no doubt, but it just doesn't do it for me.

I like the regular game more too. I enjoy creating a party and getting from 1 and up more than playing at level 20.

I enjoy the regular mode more, but I don't mind HOF either.
Frankly, I don't find it necessary to build an overly magical party to take on HOF. I've played HOF a few times, each time with the exported version of my normal mode, balanced parties. That said, I've found that rangers are rather useful in HOF, not because of their tanking per se, but because at the high levels they reach in HOF, their minimal spellcasting (almost always for animal summons) is a very nice suppliment to the primary spellcasting of my cleric and sorceror. |
