I have a Kensai and read that alot of people want to dual their kensai into a kensai/mage, but what is the good side of this?
He can use mage spells but he dont have his weapon skills left so why not just make a pure mage instead of dual youre kensai into one? Or do he get his kensai skills "back" at a higher level? As you probably understand i havent played this game for very long ![]() |

First off Welcome to IW!
Secondly, because A) After the mage XP overeaches the kensais original level, he can A) Use his melee abilites and B) Cast spells. This, coupled with the mage rules (no armor) work exceptionally well with the kensai rules (no armor), makes it a Godlike mage AND fighter. For example. Bob the kensai duals at lvl 12 to a mage. Once his mage level reaches 12, he can use the swords that he originally used as a kensai. Now, not only can he cast amazing spells, but he can also slaughter anything in his path with his blades. This is often done when soloing, as it is one the main "power classes". [ 12-26-2004, 08:50 PM: Message edited by: Sir Degrader ] |

Also, it's a quirk unique to Kensai->Mages that they can wear Mage Robes.

Oh well, math isn't my strong point. Anyway, dualing is very much worth it.

Dual at level 21. Much more powerful.
Also, re-roll until you get 18/18/18/18/18/3 in BG 1 then import the character after a run through to grab the tomes. lol ![]() |

I prefer dualling at level 13. You get all the crap that you get from a level 12 Kensai, plus an extra 1/2 attack.
Dace probably has it best, since you'll get Fighter HLAs at level 21 (I believe), but waiting for a level 22 mage to catch up will take a loooong time. If you have patience, the best "powergamy" thing to do (and possibly the most fun) is to go through BGI and them import the character, no matter what you plan on playing.

even if you don't use the tombs in BGI you get to roll for your HitPoints, which does make a big big difference.
It also means you play through the whole saga ![]() |

Well, the other reason for dualling at L21 as the Kensai mage is that every 3 levels you get weapon proficencies and the Kensai bonus +1 to hit and damage.
So at L21 we are looking at +7 hit/damage and 11 weapon proficiencies, which will do quite nicely. |

It's just finding enough XP to get to level 22 as a mage after getting to level 21 as a fighter..
Personaly I favor low level duals rather than higher level ones, like level 2-8.. When dualing most effetive is going from a non caster to a caster as casters get much better towards the endgaqme while fighters and thieves level out in their improvment.. I plan to start over again, fighter ing BG till I reach level 4 then dual to druid.. great fun, right boo..
