The protagonist is the progeny of Bhaal correct? So why can they be a elf or gnome or dwarf? (rather than half-elf/gnome/dwarf). You could argue that Bhaal assumed the form of one of these creatures whilst seducing protagonists mother, but then why can they be a half-elf or half orc? I'm confused. Surely whatever they were, it would have to be half something/half whatever Bhaal is. (I think, according to one of the history books, Bhaal was a human).

Since he was a God, he probably had the ability to transform right? That would be logical. So he could then sleep with an Elf, Dragon, Orc ... ,

It is a little known fact that Bhaal runs a fertilisation clinic but as he is evil he uses his own material, not what the mother asks for. Because of this he has a variety of offspring.

You can be elven if Bhaal assumes the form of an elf, and sleeps with an elf. You can be a half-elf three ways, I would imagine:
a) Bhaal assumes the form of an elf and sleeps with a human b) Bhaal assumes the form of a human and sleeps with an elf c) Bhaal assumes the form of a half-elf and sleeps with a half-elf You can use this as a guide for all the other races, too.

i thought i had read (probably in a previous thread) that the child is whatever the mother was. So if the mother was an elf, the child will be as well. The Bhaal essence is there but does not change the race as bhaal doesn't really have one anymore. I think this was a discussion to help justify the Imoen romance possibly...don't really remember where i read it.

I don't think there was any sleeping going on.

He did sleep with the person, some were children of no love. Some were his loving cultists who he gave bonuses, see the location where Sarevok was raised and who else was from there. In the end, Bhall simply spread his seed around to try and force the prophesies to come true and restorethe god of murder.
Bhall slept around. See the Tiny Children of Bhall for further proof.

Um...I think he meant that they were not actually "sleeping" (i.e. doing "other activities" instead).
You are right about that other thread, Illumina. I remember it too, but I'm too lazy right now to search for it. But the general idea is that he changed his race to match the mother's race, so the child came out the same race as the mother. In each case, he had a completely different form, so a completely different genetic makeup. He just infused each with a portion of his power. Thus, the other Bhaalspawn are technically your half-siblings due to the same father, but genetically there is no common ground.
