I understand that if there is any kind of push right now for development its to get to working FRUA emulation status. With the extended abilities logic block has, if we could get a decent AI and the spell code to 100% and the bugs fixed; we probably would have the FRUA crowd onboard in a heartbeat (mo ppl = mo mods = mo development).
What I'm asking bout tho is this: regardless of the wall type, theres only three views (up close, nearby, far away). How hard would it be to make a different number? Preferably, like the wall types, we could enter info into the config file and have, for example; 5 spaces of view in front of us. I'm not asking a for this as feature request, more like a hypothetical estimate of the damage ![]() ST

I'm not a programmer on DC (well mostly not), so Paul, Tarlanon or CocoaSpud would be the best people to ask for this.
However, I do have a bit of insight. The Forgotten Worlds project was using the old NWN code which displays walls just like FRUA and DC. When the programmers wanted to change it to 5 wall levels instead of 3, they found it was easier to start over and use 3D graphics (with locked in 90 degree turns) was much easier than going back and changing everything. Let us presume that CocoaSpud's original code was cleaner and easier to understand than NWN's was, I presume it would still be more difficult to catch everything and completely recalculate everything than to switch to 3D. LurchBrick has an insight into this as well. This is related to something that he has looked at in the code. It seems it is much easier to code the 3D than the fake 3D. ![]() ![]() ![]() Hopefully one of them will pipe in. ![]() |

The main reason I ask is that it would look a lot more realistic to have a tree not spring into existence when you are 30 feet away from it (assuming the 10 feet per step

If you were really motivated, I mean really motivated, you can do all kinds of things with backdrops and the extended and hyper wall formats.
