Firstly, this might be old news or common knowledge so bear with me if it is. Secondly, for those who don't know what the Infinity Engine Editor Pro (IEEP) is, it's a superb item, spell and dialog editor that works with all of the Infinity Engine Games (Baldurs Gate, Tales of the Sword Coast, Baldurs Gate 2, Throne of Bhaal, Icewind Dale, Heart of Winter and Planescape Tornemt).

I've been using this program for a while now since it's excellent if I want to know the exact stats of a weapon (if you don't trust its description). Using this program, I actually found out that the Defender of Easthaven is actually a +3 weapon, that deals 1D6+4 damage (instead of being +2 and dealing 1D6+2). Anyway, I was using Windows 2000 and this program ran fine, but I've recently upgraded to Windows XP and I got error messages when trying to load IEEP.

The messages involved missing files called COMDLG32.OCX and RICHTX32.OCX which prevented it from loading. If anyone else is experiencing this problem, then I've got a solution:

Download a program called "install-ocx.exe" from here. Run it and it will correctly install and register the file COMDLG32.OCX for you.

Secondly, download the file "RICHTX32.OCX" from here. Copy it into your "c:\windows\system32\" folder and then run the following command; "regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\richtx32.ocx" This will register this file. IEEP will when work with WindowsXP .

IEEP should work fine with Windows 9X, ME, NT and 2K, its only been a problem with XP for me.

im running MS Windows 2000 Profesional, but thanks for the links/advise. I've done everything you said to do, substituting "winnt" for "windows" and the editor runs perfectly (so far anyway) Thanks a bunch

This is the VB5 runtime problem. The programs writen under visual basic 5, and it assumes those files are present. Theres one file that installs the whole thing on teambgs site, but if its down those links are useful. Good job finding them.

Thanks . All the links are not active at the moment for IEEP and associated files at TeamBG at the moment, but yes they do have an installer which solves this. The filesize for that IIRC is around 2 MB though, and these files amount to a little under 900K, but I guess everyones got broadband now anyway!
