Default 6,000 minks released by animal rights activists

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-col...ldergrove.html

What does everyone think of this? Were they justified; were their hearts in the right place, or were they just plain stupid?
I was going to do it as a poll, but I don't know how.

I'm all about animal rights, but on this one, I go with stupid, even though their hearts may have been in the right place. I can't imagine how the ecology would be affected in the area now.

Agree with the principle, the way they did it was kind of stupid.

The minks would of died, and now the reasarch they were doing is kinda messed up.

Then again, they were gonna die anyway. I agree with releasing them.

I agree with releasing them, but being realistic, unless they can learn very fast, I think a lot of them are going to die.

"On Thursday, the bodies of numerous mink were already scattered along nearby 8th Avenue."
Where are the activist now?

"The mink were born and bred in captivity and can't survive in the wild, and unless they are recaptured, they'll die of exposure or end up as road kill, the owners said on Thursday."
I was thinking this was common knowledge.

Sorry... if you object to raising minks for their fur, releasing them en masse into the wild so they can die far, far earlier and disrupt the rest of the ecosystem at the same time is *NOT* the way to do it. Legislate your way into it.

At this point, they're just common criminals. Vandals. Slugs who should pay for the damages they caused and spend some time in the local prison to think about the impact of their actions. Preferably with a cellmate who's 6'3", 235 pounds, and named Bubba...

I know it's a slippery slope, but the same kind of irrational thinking can lead people to releasing cows, chickens, pigs, and any other kind of animal. It can also lead to destroying almost anything else - how many industries can you think of that *don't* have an impact on the environment?

Even if they're born and bred in captivity, with 6000 minks free odds are some of them will survive and breed.

Yep... take six thousand city slickers who live in downtown New York City and toss 'em into the Amazon, I'm *SURE* that some of them will survive and breed...

Same thing, different perspective. The criminals just didn't want to get their hands bloody by killing the minks themselves.

But you still set off the balance of the ecosystem. that's like (though perhaps not as extreme as) blowing up a chemical plant because it's producing polutants. Perhaps following a legal route to having it shut down and safely dismantled would be a better course.

So should we expect this same group to strike at dairy and poultry farms next?
Chickens and cows bred in captivity for the purpose of food, how does it differ from 6k minks bred in captivity for fur?
