Sunglass Man manikus' Dungeon Craft

There's been some activity on my site that I haven't mentioned here.

There are a small picture and icon for the beast-god Cthulu from the works of H.P. Lovecraft, that is based on the 1e Deities & Demigods.

There is also a small picture of an Ettin along with an icon of the same and the two Hill Giant icons that I've done.

Stop by and check 'em out. There's also a nice article on scale and size in DC and resource index of the UANL articles that apply to DC.

Just click the link in my sig.

Edited to list correct book.

Nice work there, manikus! (But Cthulhu's stats were from Deities & Demigods, no? )

Yes sir. You are right, and I knew that it was the Deities & Demigods book, too. I guess I put the MM b/c I had it open looking at giants' stats when I was writing that post.

Thanks. I'm working on a Hell Hound and redoing the Minotaur, which I decided is just hideous (b/c it is ).

And then...only four more monster icons and two or three monster small pictures and the monster art will be done. That is to say for the default release, not counting any future add-ons that will be separate downloads, as you can see mentioned all over this forum, especially an aquatic set, an underdark set and an outer planes set. (I still need to update the monster database, but that will be between me and a book, no 'creation' involved.) The list of what we have and what we still need is in the Default Icons thread in case anybody is curious or want to tackle one of the remaining icons or small pictures.

Hell hound, eh? Been thinking of doing that for a loooong time... Never got around to it, though... (Lots of outer plane creatures are on the "to do but not done" list )

I've always thought that if I were a denizen of particular lower planes, I'd have me a Hell Hound for a pet.

I'm doing based off of the description in 1e and not off the artistic renditions for the Monster Manuals. I know they're just black and white drawings, but I always felt the 2e picture looked more like a zombie hound than a Hell Hound. Of course, doing it my way, means it looks like a reddish dog (hound, not that you can tell in an icon that small) and I haven't decided if I will include the fiery breath in the icon or not. I just looked at the 1e picture again, and the HH looks pretty normal and is breathing fire, so I think I'll go that route.

Yeah - I usually go off of the 1e descriptions and pictures, too (with a few glances at the 2e (even 3e) pictures for good measure)...

I generally like the way 2e and 3e art looks, but I don't think of it as AD&D art. It's just some cool fantasy art.

2e art depends a lot on who drew it

3e art has a quite different flavor compared to both 1e and 2e (more comic-book? punk?) - it is very well drawn/colored, but I just don't like the style.

(Of course, there are exceptions - I mean, Larry Elmore drew the nymph in the 3e Monster Manual, so that is basically 1e/2e art right there.)
