Default help with corrupt file?

I recently got a new computer, and am trying to install Wiz 8 on it. (It worked fine on the old one.) However, one file, has apparently become corrupt - LEVELS.SLF from CD3.

I have cleaned the disk, tried loading onto other machines, and manually copying from the CD to the hard drive. 98% of the game will load but this one file will not read. Unfortunately, I no longer have a copy of the game on the old computer, so I cannot even copy files over from it.

Any advice on where to go for help?

Thanks,
M

Howdy Durin11235

have you checked the LEVELS.SLF file on your HDD to make sure it's not 'read only' ?

And perhaps uninstall and reinstall WIZ8 to a different destination.

Perplexed Re: help with corrupt file?

Thanks. Unfortunately, I cannot get a good copy of the file off of the CD to the hard drive. I think it might be the CD that is corrupt.

Howdy Durin11235,

carefully check the surface of the disk in good lighting - look for smudges, scratches or other things on the surface of the disk that might be causing the problem. Also check the label side - scratches that side can cause hassles if the reflective surface is damaged.

If your other computer has a slower (speed wise) optical drive, try copying the file that way - an older drive might be a little less finicky.

Thanks.

I saw a number of smudges and scratches.

I was able to clean it a bit w/ rubbing alcohol, but still no luck. I've tried several older machines and one newer one, but they fail at the same place when trying to copy from the disk - LEVELS.SLF from CD3.
