hiya crowley
just thought i'd mention something regarding your loving AD&D to begin with
i played too and love the genre and these developers have done a great job sticking to the old manuals...Unfortunately, by the time you get to BG2 and especially throne of bhaal, much of this knowledge becomes moot as they began designing things {spells, monster abilities..} not in the initial system. this is all good they still do it well, but if you want the real thing that you remember {wandering through wildernesses looking for a legendary +2 sword that makes bacon and frying a couple dozen kobolds with a fireball} i would highly recommend buying Baldur's Gate the First one where you start your own character from level one and proceed to carry them through all these expansions {which is Very fun} - this will also familiarize you with unique gameplay elements that make it so much more enjoyable when you know how to use and take advantage of them, eg saving at proper times, hot-keys for spells, customizing scripts etc. If nothing else familiarize yourself with magic defenses and the dealing with them {eg. secret word vs. spell trap, breach vs. All combat defenses} - many new spells in this regard and not knowing them makes the expert battles much more difficult...
cheers and happy smashing

And not to mention that the exact number of -secret words-, necessary to dispel a spell-trap is 7.5
At that point you'll have thrown 30 spell levels at him, so you're happy that you dispelled the spell trap and he's happy 'cause he can cast it 3 more times than before

Anywayz, my point is that Secret Word only dispels 8th lvl and lower protections
