Default Microsoft wants to buy Yahoo

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/7222114.stm

Well, this might give Google a bit of a competition on the web.

All MS is buying, IMHO, is the brand. Most of the technology, I believe, is duplicated already.

It *IS* an attempt to overtake Google. I doubt it will be successful.

I dunno I've run searches on both and gotten identical results. What exactly makes one better than the other?

Google originated with a different algorithm... identifying the validity of a link by the number of places that linked to it. I'm sure everyone else has picked up on that by now, so I think it's based on efforts to make finding what you want easier.... hmmm... it may not be long before Google invents elevators like in HGttG... that know where you want to go before you show up....

Check the Hi-tech lead paragraph in this article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/7222469.stm

As it says:

"This is being widely reported as an anti-Google move. But in communications -- email, instant messaging/presence, social networks etc. -- a Yahoo - Microsoft combination would be tremendously dominant."

Google is good in search and advertising, but in other domains it remains to be seen.
