A question for anyone familiar with this. A friend of mine has had a lot of trouble lately academicly, so I asked her what was bothering her. Apparently, for quite a long time, her mind will go out into space or go blank, has a hard time trying to stay focused. I was wondering if this was ADHD, although I'm not too sure.
If anyone has an idea of what it is, fill me in and let me know what are good medications to be prescribed to for it. Thanks |

I thought ADHD was when you couldn't concentrate on one thing for a while, and has to keep switching activities or something like that.
I'm sorta like that sometimes as well, but I think it's because I have to get up too early/not getting enough sleep. |

ADHD is something that really needs a professional diagnosis. This dosent sound like ADHD to me, at least not in that it dosent sound like my brother all that much. But then it probably comes in a wide range of symptoms. If it is ADHD, then the meds can help, my brother is actualy a decent guy these days, hasnt attacked me with no provocation in years.

This might seem simplistic but sounds like lack of sleep.

Sounds like ADD (attention deficit disorder) to me, not ADHD (attention deficit hyperactive disorder). Thats exactly what I used to suffer from (and still somewhat do)... I just go blank. Someone could be talking to me, and I'm not interested so I just start thinking of other things. Sucks ass in exams and the like.
I would tell your friend to go get analysed by a psychotherapist (or whatever the relevant doctor is). Hell, just tell her to go to her local GP and explain the situation, and inform the doctor that she'd like to be tested for ADD. As far as I remember (over 10 years ago) the tests are all mental, there were no physical exams or anything (ie - needles) to be afraid of. Except maybe the bill. Just my two cents. |
