Well i just finished Baldurs Gate alone with a fighter/thief (level 7/8-tosc installed) and i came to the conclusion that this is probably the best multi class.I was amazed how i could with the right strategy to deafet powerfull foes (doomslayer, battle horrors, daevorn and of course sarevok!),i used very much its backstabing ability (x3) and in the final battle that you cannot exit those usefull invisibility potions to backstab.Anyway that character with the 3 girdles, boots of speed,20 arrows of detonation,20 arrows of piercing and 5 of dispeliing and 10-10 darts of wounding-stunning with its long sword 2 was just too much for its enemies!!
Anyway i am gonna start Tosc right now and the only part i expect to be difficult will be the chess game cause my luck of any magic but...we ll see,i will keep anyone informed!! (we have to find something to do till bg2 in 11 days..)

I had a similar experience, stred, with a cleric/illusionist, but I remeved the xp cap (which wasn´t a great advantage except for the hit points). I finished all the game except the werewolves and Sarevok, not because I wasn´t able to complete it but because I bought IWD je je... Anyway I think the werewolves would have been a great challenge because of their magic resistance and inmunity to some attacks. And the final level of the Balduran ship with those Loup Garous... VERY HARD

Anyway, I like more to complete games (BG, TotSC, IWD) first with a complete party of 6 (usually 2 warrior, 1 thief, 1 cleric, 1 mage) a pair of times and then play parties of 3. For example I started a game with a warrior, a warrior/illusionist and a warrior/thief (I never finished because of IWD) and in IWD i am now playing a party of 3 elven bow-trained warriors (I´ve had to edit their proficiencies cause the game doesn´t allow me to have more than 3 in bows, WHY ?? )

Well Adhrael you are near to convice me to try a cleric/ranger (i am just bored cause he needs very good dice rolls in the making). As conclusion i say that you dont know a character till you play him solo and that applies for the game too,its allmost amazing that in a single solo game i learn more for the game that the past four games i have played with a party.Mainly i learn to appreciate the girldes and to know what weapon is slashing, piercing etc etc, cause with 6 characters armed with missile weapons well allmost nothing could actually get near and hit my characters!,and a lot lot more...

Well I like more the mage multicharacters, but a cleric ranger may be cool too, though i dont like cleric spells. I used my cleric part of the cleric/illu only to summon creatures and then strike the enemies with the mage part. The mage/thief or mage/fighter combo could be nice too, especially with 2 ring of wizardry. This is the stuff I used with the illusionist/cleric (maybe i´ll forget something, it´s been a long time)

helm and cloak of balduran, shield+2, robe of the neutral archmagi, boots of speed, 2 ring of wizardry (or 1 with the claw of kazgaroth i don´t know), greenstone amulet, girdle of piercing, the sling+3 and the staff-mace.
