WHY? There are guys who have capacity (int and wis wise) to see thru Jan's ramble, and yet they don't...

It's not that other NPCs are particularly stupid, it's just that they often lack a sense of humour. Minsc is perhaps the only exception - he's quite amusing, but too thick to understand Jan's ironies, anecdotes and general rambling. People like Anomen and Keldorn are too stuck-up to stoop to the level of a peddling gnome. Viconia and Jaheira take themselves and their situations far too seriously and so don't appreciate Jan's humour in the least. So you see, there's always some reason why the other characters can't enjoy his stories the way we, as players, do.
