Memnoch's poll about where in Faerun we would live reminded me of a topic that used to frequently come up in my college/university days. A few of us would be sitting around after a night on the town, sipping our favorite beverages, sharing a joint or two...

If you could live in any Real historical time, when would it be and why?

What profession/occupation would you choose and why?

To make you good people work a little harder, you MAY NOT choose an historical figure (Hannibal, Charlemagne, Socrates, etc.)

I was always torn between being a Viking during their great age of exploration and conquest or a mountain man in the American west during the 1800's. To quote the late Louis L'Amour, "I've always been a mite fiddle-footed. Never could stay in one place too long." The idea of going into a "new" region, whether on my own or with a band of TRUSTED companions, seeing places none of my kind have seen before and being able to build something of my own without the beauracracy of "civilization" is quite appealing to me. Meet new cultures, learn, share trade and build something to be proud to pass on. Could anything be better? You decide.

Hi IdiotRogue, this is a great topic so let me think...

I would like to be an Egyptian architectual surveyor towards the end of the 6th dynasty (2365-2181),when the great pyramids were complete and the inscriptions were being finnished. To see these wonders in all their pristine glory would truely be fantastic.

Thanks for the reply, PG. I was beginning to think this was the biggest dud since Milli Vanilli (sp?). Either that or my mouthwash ain't cutting it.

Your choice is cool. I've often wondered how close the "experts" come when they recreate various ancient structures. The Pyramids would be way cool as would Rhodes, Athens, some of the "territorial" Roman towns.

I'm looking forward to reading what some other folks will choose.
