Ive Just Seen On ITN News That American Troops Have Caught An American Civilian Fighting For The Taliban!! His Name, If I Remember Correctly, Is John Walker And He Was Born In Washington. He Was Studying Islamic During His Late Teens, And Went To Visit The Middle East (Yemen I Think) And While He Was There He Grew Attached To The Taliban...

I saw this also. He was actually born in Washington, D.C., ironic huh? He was found with a group of foreign Taliban survivors from the prison riot in Maza...er....you know where I'm talking about

He was found by Northern Alliance troops, and he immediately began telling them he was American. He supported the September 11th attacks. Funny, he was all for the Taliban, Osama Bin Laden, and America's "falling down" until he was captured. Now he's looking for some good ole US citizenship benefits. After his cries of being American, the NA turned him over to US special forces in the area. He's received medical treatment for his riot wounds and is still in USSF custody. His mom and dad say he's really a good kid.

I hope he's the first person brought before a military tribunal for treason.

His dad was on MSNBC this morning and made the point his son went to Afghanistan prior to September 11th to help the Taliban against the Northern alliance. He also says while his son continued to support the Taliban and fight the Northern Alliance after September 11th, but didn't fire at any US troops. His dad stresses the point his son has done nothing illegal or against the US government. The fact he was involved with the hardline foreign Taliban involved in the prison riot doesn't really support that.

His dad was very classy. He said he knew his son had made poor decisions and emphasized his families love for and support of America. He says he wants to know where his son is, and when his family can meet with him but understands it's a difficult question for the US.

In an interview with Mr. Walker himself, he said he had surrendered in Mazar Sharif, and did not fight in the prison riot, as it was a sin to go back on ones word, particualrly in a military situation.

He was found hiding with other prisoners who did not fight in the riot.

Interesting, I haven't seen that interview yet. This whole situation will prove very interesting because, based on other reports, there are other Americans in a similar situation.

I agree, it will be very interesting to see how the US government handles this. My personal opinion is that these evil Taliban may receive their constitutional rights.

Sorry, dad, the argument doesn't wash. Had that been my kid I would be ashamed, not proud. Let the treasonous boy take full responsibility for his actions.

One of the commentators I saw said they can be tried for treason, but that charges of treason is seldom used. Instead, they are tried for other charges related to the events.
