it depends, I have played the game hundreds of times for lack of anything else to do and though I like soloing, I missed the party interactions.

I play with 1 party per game, not switching different NPCs. There isn't one best party, there are better and badder NPCs but nearly all are useful in a party. I do take another party when starting a new game, to see new NPC interactions, funny dialogues, new tactics etc.

Why not try to play them in a party with Jan, Edwin or Korgan. Maybe you'll get cool dialogues.

Same here I have never used Aerie or Cernd.

I usually have about two parties going at once in different save games. At the minute I'm playing an archer(good alignment ovbiously) and a beserker(evil alignment) so both parties are completly different, the only character in both is Jan Jansen. I'd say my best party is the evil one it consists of:

Borimir- beserker
Korgan- beserker
Vicionia- cleric
Haer'Dalis- blade
Edwin- conjurer
Jan- Thief/illusionist

I enjoy this party although with the two beserkers the game is a bit easy as when there both beserked there Imune to nearly everything but still having two beserkers in a party together makes a great team I'd recomend it to anyone.

Best party? Well, in my humble opinion, the best party consists of self made members. But without the ingame characters, you miss out on too much of the fun.

I usualy always play good characters, and I somehow always seem to end up with the same basic lineup through the whole game, it is as follows:

-Aerie
-Minsc
-Jan Jansen
-Jaheira
-Keldorn

Sometimes there is a variation. Sometimes I switch Keldorn for Imoen. But it remains basicaly the same. I guess it is just the combination I am most comfortable with.

I don't think that you can say that one party is "better" than the other. I think a good party is one that can handle all situations equally well. A balanced party.

I almost always have Jan in my party for comic relief, Imoen because you spend 15,000 gold pieces to get her back, and Jahiera because her and Khalid were with my char since day four, chapter one back at the Friendly Arm Inn. The other two spots are filled based on what class my PC is.
