"Spam" as in an inappropiate post.

Was it a byproduct of the famous Monty Python sketch?
Something a random person made up which proceeded to spread through the internet like spam possesed?

Why do I want to know? I'm settling a bet

But how did it make its way into the internet? Also do they still sell spam and if so WHY? Did people who purchased it during World War 2 enjoy it so much that they demanded that it should remain on the market

Perhaps Cloudy was eating spam when she started posting? Here's a link: http://www.templetons.com/brad/spamterm.html

Maybe somebody thought it was good for kids? *Shrugs* . Yes, they still sell it. At least, they do at my local shop and if they don't sell it world wide I wanna know since when

I've always wondered why on the can they show it garnished with things like pineapple, or parsley...

I mean seriously, if you can afford pineapple and parsley WTF are you doing putting it on spam?

I think y'all are ignoring the most common use of the word "spam" on the internet: to refer to unsolicited e-mail. This is highly annoying, so I guess that its meaning spread to annoying one-word or smilie posts. It's use for off-topic posts or essentially meaningless posts is pretty much limited to this site, I guess, since it is not used at others like SF-Fandom, where spamming in our sense forced them to close "The Green Dragon," which was similar to the Cafe, but much, much spammier.
