Hiya folks i reached chapter 6 now and while i was visiting cities to take a look around i encountered an odd place with a group of godlike baddies
one of the mages which i cannot hit and damage cast timestop frequently and usually the end result is a dead party member because of the death spells, maze, domination ..the spell which they turn against ya the meteor one, etc..

theres also a fella who levels drains you, beholder a couple of other mages i believe..my question is how should i prepare for this fight..i tried breech lower resistance, greather malison( spelling error )
but i cant break her defense..the beholder and the one that lvls drains me do not pose much of a threat but they do hang for a while and dmg does accumulate

my party breakdown is as follows
my main char the paladin is lvl 14 keldorn is 15 visconia is 15 jan is 12/12 jalhiera is 10/13 and minsc is lvl 14

i do the regular which is haste negative plane, aid, death ward on my main guys rage, beserk, holy power and 2 elementals and a woodland being

which spells do i use to wear down the mage and most importantly which order should i attack them in..ive taken into account that archers can interrupt mages and quite the potent mage killers but i cant even land a hit
not to mention that mage summons a demon and some other nasty baddies

on a side note i think i beat the elem lich by accident:O lost 4 party members and i beat him with my pally and druid remaining and they were both confused

any help would be appreciated thx

oh and what point in the game would u recommend to finish all the quest before there is no turning back..im really early chapter 6 where you meet dritz

thx once again

The base idea for the Twisted Rune: the mage there will summon a pit fiend eventually but the monsters there will not be protected from evil. Therefore, the pit fiend will work for you if you put yourself out of sight. Therefore:
1. Turn AI off. Cast Chaos, Protection from Evil and Remove Fear. Give the Boots of Speed to one of your guys.
2. Position your party as near to the entrance to the dungeon as possible.
3. Send the hastened guy to trigger the events. Run back to the entrance. Wait.
4. The lich will cast Time Stop and Simulacrum (?) but then it decides to follow you to the entrance. Because the lich is slow, the Time Stop will be wasted.
5. Kill the lich and the simulacrum. Now, the main room is full of nasty monsters but they know nothing about you.
6. Save the game. Send Wizard Eye to the main room and start summoning monsters. Send them to the main room. Skeletal Warriors are great but other monsters will do as well. Repeat. Finally, the mage loses nerves and summons the pit fiend. This is the end. The pit fiend will kill most of the monsters in the main room.
7. The rest is on you. It is doable even in Chapter 3.

Note: do not try to summon the fiend yourself. At least, do not be too explicit with it. Your priest or mage would have to go near the main room if he wanted the have the fiend inside the room. But at this moment, the monsters there will detect your presence and follow you to the entrance area. That's bad.
On the other hand, you can experiment with summonig the fiend BEFORE triggering Shangalar. You can also try to cast Protection from Evil on your fiend so that the mages's fiend cannot attack it (?????!?!). I don't know. I've never tried.

I did that in chapter 3...I thought that, Kangaax and the shadow dragon were the hardest battles in the game.

One thing that works great (in addition to starting off as the guy in the previous post put it), you need to get the one wizard (shanaglar?) seperated from everyone else. Before you get him to come into the front room, set 5000 traps and him and his double will go down quick. Try your best to pick everyone of 1 or 2 at a time, it makes it a lot easier.

Also, do you have a proper mage in your party? it sounds like you have 2 clerics, 2 paladins, a ranger and a theif. You might be missing access to some great spells...(I don't know vincona, though).
