It looks like there's been another club fire, this time in Rhode Island. This one was caused by pyrotechnics during a concert. The deaths weren't because of poor exits though, unlike Chicago, but because of the speed that the fire spread. Anyone from the 80's remember Great White? Looks like the guitarist didn't make it out:

Edit: Seesh, in just the last hour, the estimate went from 10 confirmed dead to 39, with other's still missing. This is awful. Such a shame. NY Times reports the death toll at 60 now. Still missing is one member of Great White.
Chicago club owners are battening down the hatches and shining everything up because heavy inspections are expected tonight.

Really sad is that most of the dead were found near the main entrance, but there were actually 4 working exits, but even the regulars weren't familiar with them. Everyone tried to get out the same way they got in.

After years of replacing the light bulbs in EXIT signs, it is natural for me to look for all the exits when I go into a new place. This tragedy should be a definite warning for others to look for all the exits in a building.

Don't worry Z, this is nothing more than stupid human error. I saw some film footage from inside this place just after the pyro went off, it's amazing how quickly the background caught on fire and then rolled onto the ceiling.
The death toll is now nearing 90.

The death toll is closing in on the 100 mark.
On tonight's news a famous small club (one where Bruce Springsteen got his start) is claiming that Great White used pyrotechnics without their approval during a show. They claim that Great White didn't ask about permission, and that they didn't realize they were using them until they went off during the act. They claim they would have denied permission. While I do doubt the group tried to get permission before hand, I also doubt a that a small club could miss the fact that any group was setting up pyrotechnics for a show. This story sucks more and more.
