i happily sat down to watch this film in the middle of my christmas shopping stupidly choosing what in hindsight was a bad time (1pm to 4pm) so there was a high proportion of children who seemed to like cheering, but i could live with that, but did anyone else get people laughing at parts they shouldnt have done i found it incredibly annoying (normally i couldnt care less ) basically at the bits where you're meant to feel sympathy for gollum, people were in peals of laughter, some bits gollum did were meant to be funny, but the whole schizophrenic thing and most of what gollum does your not meant to laugh, meant to feel sorry for the sad pathetic creature that he is, i must have been only person in cinema not laughing (cant remember the exact point but it was obvious the director, peter jackson, wanted people to feel sympathy and not laugh, and i saw an interview he said he too was annoyed at this point by people at the american screening who laughed too, so thankfully im not the only one )

plus anyone who read the books wouldnt find that bit funny, where its made more obvious the depth of patheticness that gollum achieves, was anyone else annoyed by laughter in definately the wrong places?

obviously i read the books many times over though im no hardcore fan, i just love the whole books and the films, i thought i was the only one this bugged till i saw it bugged peter jackson too, woohoo

aside from all that it was a great film despite some major plot deviations, it managed to pull it all off, and if you havent watched it then go see it, ill likely be seeing it again once if not twice more, just hope the audience knows when to feel sorry for the characters and not laugh

That bit was the second most hilarious bit in the whole movie (the first being when Gimli is standing behind the battlements grumbling), I think that it was meant to be funny...
Definitely this movie was more funny than the last one, GIMLI WAS EXCELLENT!!!!!!!

little hard to read? its nigh on impossible to read, even for me sorry bout that, i gotta type slower and punctuate/paragraph more

and gimli was a comic foil, and the actor is a very funny one too, so i was happy with that, was meant to be funny, also one of the gollum moments was meant to be funny, but it was the bit where your meant to feel sorry for gollum, hes got a schizophrenic bad side that is basically bringing him down, hes acting like a fawning dog and a psychopath all in one, peter jackson wanted him to be sympathised with, not laughed at (cept in the few deliberate scenes where its obvious your meant to laugh) .

yes the battlements bit got a big laugh, from me too, i always liked gimli in the books anyhow, and he was captured right. Always thought frodo was annoying and boring, sam was much better anyhows

Frodo is CRAP!!!
he doesn't do anything... he doesn't even act like the ring is such a huge burden... all he does is stroke it now and then...

I'm pretty sure that was meant to be a funny scene... the way he is so enthusiastic and then so angry... and then he capers about in joy... definitely a classic lugh scene

well i think elijah woods does a good job of being frodo, insofar as i didnt like frodo in the books and am glad they dont show too much of him in the film either they shifted towards the more action of aragorn etc, but i do hope in the 3rd film they show merry and pippin properly, because they prove themselves to be true heroes, and pretty hard bastads too so they'd better show more of them.

But my fave chars are aragorn, gandalf, sam and gimli
