Greetings everybody
I was unshure where to post this topic,(feel free to delete it).
First of all, I would like to bestowe compliments on this forum and its users! Because this place is great indeed!
I have been experiencing a problem with my Black Isle (purchased copies) games, the whole series of Baldurs Gate actually. The SB drivers are in conflict wth the "SBlive! value" drivers (OS = ME). This is causing some severe lag'ing to the sound, to the point where i choose to turn the sound off instead, and that decreases the gaming experience badly.

I've emailed SBLive several times and the keep ignoring me. You guys are my last hope

I've read about this problem somewhere, but it did not provide a sollution. I've patched both bg and Sb, and that did not help at all.

Welcome to the forum, you'll love it here

Allavega, about your problem...
I don't remember exactly but when you install the game, can't you install it with lower quality soundfiles?

as I said I can't remember if it's ig the BG games but I'd try that if I was you...

No, not in bg1, perhaps in bg2? And i don't think that would solve the problem anyway , its a conflict between the drivers, and thats probably not solved with a decrease in the amount of data the sound is sending to my computer,.
and im not new to this forum, i've been here for about a year, but i've only posted about 20 messages (somekind of record, isnt it?)

Hmmm, that is strange that you are having so much conflict with your SB Live card because I, too, have a SB Live and I have never had trouble with the games you mention. Perhaps it is a problem with your BIOS settings. If you know anyone who can check out your computer I would do so before buying a whole new sound card.

Hiya Badet,
I've got an SBLive! platinum and haven't had any problems with conflicts with games. I've played BGI and II with no problems. Having said that, lemme tell you what I think made the difference for me...
First, check out how your Motherboard is laid out with respect to which IRQ's are available on which slots. Usually the agp port and slot 1 have individual IRQ's with 2&3 sharing one IRQ, and 4&5 or USB if you have it, sharing another. The trick is to figure which accessories work better with their own IRQ, like the SBLive card, or a modem, which needs it only when in use. Lay out your cards physically to meet their IRQ needs.
On the SBLive, there is a control for number of voices available, this should be maxed out. Also check that your SBLive software and your windows software are both set for the same number and configuration of speakers.
Sorry this a bit vague, I'm at work and don't recall my exact settings and so forth, I'll check when I get home and add any info I might have missed...

Good luck

pci slots 2-4 usually work out best for sound cards in my experience. but before you go rushing off pulling bits out, try moving the hardware accleration slider down a notch this can be found in control pannel, sounds and multimedia, audio, playback - advanced, performance.

I had a huge problem with SB Live! under XP Pro to the point that my registry hive would be corrupt at every boot. After installing the the latest Creative drivers I haven't had a problem. I'm not quite sure if Creative has released anything new for ME yet, but it's probably worth a shot.
The first place to look for problems would be Device Manager, and check to see what IRQ's are being shared between your Live! and other cards. SB Live! cards are notorious resource hogs, so you'll want to find a PCI slot that shares the least amount of IRQ's with the others. Usually the AGP slot shares an IRQ with PCI 1, which will cause problems during games.
Check your mobo manual or the manufactures web site and check your PCI slots. Some may be 16bit slots, usually the last two or three depending on how many you have. Ideally a 32bit PCI slot is what your looking for.

This may sound a bit simplistic, but I had a similar problem with musical lag/reverb on a different game, and it worked for me.

Turn off the "EAX" setting.

That's probably not it, but it's certainly worth a shot.

Maby this is the last hope i dont knove but unistall all the drivers for the soundcard remove the soundcard then start the pc again and if all is okay shut down the pc then put the sblive in the FIRST pci slot start the pc let windows ME find the driver by it self and try the game then and se if that help and if it works great don`t install the drivers from Creative Labs!! Actually I had very similar problems when I had a SBLive! I had heaps of problems on lots of games, tried all the latest unofficial drivers and everything, but I could never get it working properly. I went and bought a Hercules Game Theater and never looked back. Even still, I tend not to bother with sound acceleration as it tends to be more trouble than it's worth, so if you have it turned on, try turning it off.
