Is this for real?
Isn't it going a bit too far? How will "Patriot's Day" be observed? With solemn rememberance of an attack on our nation or with fireworks like a new 4th of July? WTF? What's a good country for an alternative to have to continue living in this one? EDIT: you know your in bad shape when you can't even spell an abbreviation right lol [ 09-05-2002, 11:23 PM: Message edited by: Moni ] |

Perhaps call it 'Day of Reflection' instead -- a day when one reflects on what happened, why, what to do about it etc...
But I'm not American, so I'm staying out of this... [ 09-05-2002, 11:14 PM: Message edited by: K T Ong ]

Do you have a link on this? It's the first I've heard about it. I'm kinda suspicious tho as there allready is a patriot's day. http://www.holidayorigins.com/html/patriot_s_day.html

It is the first I've heard of it. I think the relative closeness of the date is probably fueling this discussion. Almost no one "celebrates" or venerates 7 December, the "date which will live in infamy." As the years pass, 11 September will be remembered, but not hold as great a significance as it does now. Human nature.

Somehow I got this gut feeling that someone is trying using this occasion as a political propaganda... for his very own benefit.

I think they want to keep the memory of 9/11 strong so that they will not loose support on this "War On Terrorism" we are currently engaged in.
Personally I would like the fervor over this to calm down after this anniversary. I think it will serve the terrorists well if we are shown to be up in arms over it for years to come. Naming it Patriots Day will continue to make what they did to the USA important. Unfortunately, I hate to say, it seems to be mostly politically motivated. Mark |

This "Patriot" thing is a little bit absurd if you ask me, but then again; I'm not American, so I can't judge how those guys feel about it....

The Patriot part may be bestowed on the heroic passengers of the flight that crashed in PA. I don't know if you'd be considered a Patriot if you were killed in the towers or the Pentagon, though.
I sense that this is a touchy issue. I think it depends on who you are and how close you were to the crisis. Mark |
