Hello,
well, I tried to have 2 of my fighters use a good weapon and a shield, but weilding 2 weapons is just too much fun! I usually use 2 when I need to take 'em out despite counterdamage (i.e., liches) or don't have to worry (i.e., orcs). I still use the 1 with shield if I'm facing real bruisers (i.e., an adamantine golem). What's the consensus around here: is using 2 just "cute", or really better than the advantages that a really good shield provides? Speed is affected with 2 weapons, right? Keep plugging those weapon skill points. - Twilight

Arrgh! Two weapons holds btter benefits than having a shield IMO...
You get the powers of both weapons at the same time, the added AC of a shield doesn't really weigh up against the extra attacks hence extra damge two weapons er...does (Tho some sheilds do have nice powers like resistances etc, wish you could shield bash tho haha). However, if you have ToB, then the special power GreaterWhirlwind kind of negates the extra attacks by setting your attacks per round to 10 for like about 6 seconds, but this is a temporary power...so...I still think 2 is better than 1.. I have no prob with Clerics/Druids using shields however... PS-Two weapons looks sick ![]() [ 06-05-2002, 10:58 AM: Message edited by: Bristowe ]

I REALLY couldn't stop using a shield when I came over from BG1. I learned.

If you can dual-wield, DO IT. It's also what makes the Swashbuckler kit for thieves so powerful; the ability to put three prof points in Dual wield. Give them profs in Longsword and Katana and then dual-wield Celestial Fury and the Blade of Roses and you've got a killer!
Cheers, -Sazerac

Hello,
I agree that the clerics need a shield (of course, the best ones appear to mostly be beyond of their natural strength requirements; I like the strength belts to go to fighters and thieves instead, and I'll even pass by Crom Faere(sp.) to keep 'em [note: you can raise strenght with a certain mace or potions and then equipt, but that is a little too contrived]), except for times when the Magi +5 is needed. Shield bashing would be great and realistic! The shields do have nice resistances, and my characters are set up to go either way. Still, I too have relaxed my BG1 propensities and realized the advantages of a quicker kill. Two proficiencies in 2 weapons takes you to about a normal attack with each, right (or, was that 3 proficiencies)? Now, if I only one could switch quickly from a missle weapon to 2 weapons with one click... - Twilight

Hello,
Sazerac is right, but, the Sword of Roses is a very good +3 longsword (speed, weight, etc.). However, it may as well be carried by the group's leader in order to improve conversation and merchant interactions. I wish I could upgrade to a +5 (with some extra ability, +1 fire, truesight, regeneration, something decent) - then it would remain weilded at all times! - Twilight

lower speed factor is better, it acts like a casting time on mages spells, the higher the number the longer it takes to get the attack off, and so you get hit more before you have a chance to return the favor
