I have read posts here on the board, seen protesters interviewed on TV and radio, and read news stories where people who are against both America and the current war and I have a very simple question to ask:
What, exactly, do you dislike about America? Psychologically speaking, people often tend to attack or act against something they fear. It is this fear of America and American influence that I do not understand. My lack of understanding stems from two sources: 1) I live here and 2) my own study of American history and its relevance in world events do not point to America somehow trying to "take over the world". I love a good conspiracy theory as well as the next person, but I don't believe it. In short, all I ask is that you tell me what you find fearful about America and where/from whom you learned this information, and I will do my best to offer a rational rebuttal. Belle asked me "Are you trying to change people's opinions?" The answer is "no"; I am not trying to change anyone's opinions of anything. I am simply gathering information to understand the phenomenon of Ameriphobia (for lack of a better term). Perhaps we can educate each other, yes?

Was hoping to see some responses to this...oh well.
Oh Azred, your psychological assessments about what people attack and stuff...one thing/aspect people really seem to attack, is when they preceive inadaquacies in their own character, or when they see something of themselves (that they dislike)in others. People are really complex and contrary creatures and really can't be pinned down. Their motivations are just as likely to be completly irrational as they are rational. re: psychology. You're quite correct. 1 point for MagiK!
I also find it a little sad that there has been no one willing to respond. Most likely they think I am trolling, but I never troll. As stated, I always seek only the truth, whether through rational debate or scientific investigation. Oh, well...at least I tried. *sigh*

I think the reason for the lack of response is that few people dislike America.
Now if you said that the post was for people who disliked American Foreign Policy... |

America, American Foreign Policy, the American military, etc. Any topic--within reason--will suffice.
Perhaps I just want an engaging debate. I'm not proud!

Oh no, that one is unfair...you'll have to narrow it down to the name of the restaurant(s).
![]() I'll throw in Cincinnati Ohio though...what a stinky city...driving out of it you come to a point where you can actually feel the change in the air as it turns fresh again. [ 04-10-2003, 10:40 AM: Message edited by: Lil Lil ] |
