BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (AP) -- A woman angry with her 12-year-old daughter for having sex forced the girl to drink bleach and sat on her until the child died, a police detective said.

The girl's 9-year-old brother was forced to watch the attack, Detective Warren Cotton testified Thursday in a preliminary hearing for Tunisia Archie, 31.

Archie is charged with capital murder in the asphyxiation death of her daughter Jasmine. If convicted, she could be sentenced to death or life in prison without parole.

Cotton said Archie, who has been jailed without bond since shortly after her daughter's Nov. 26 death, told authorities she was disturbed because "her daughter told her that she was no longer a virgin."

She said she poured bleach into Jasmine's mouth and the child vomited, he said, then sat on her until she stopped breathing, Cotton testified.

Archie forced Jasmine's 9-year-old brother Jacorey to watch the attack and "told him that if he shed a tear that she was going to kill him, too," Cotton testified.

I hadn't heard this story before, but yes--monstrous.
Sometimes I think we should start mandating psychiatric testing before people are allowed to have children, but that is probably far too draconian for most people.

Wow, that's absolutely disgusting. In response to Azred however, how many times does a situation like this come up, and what is the relation between this and regular, stable parent-child relationships?

This actually happens quite rarely, given the number of people who have children.

There is no relation, because things like this don't happen in stable parent-child relationships.

On another note, has anyone heard of David Pelzter? How come his mother did not get jail time for her numerous attacks on him? Hell, she fed him amnonia and diaper refuse (when he was a little kid), that bitch deserves to burn!

Yeah, and I am terrified of the possibilities with me having a soon to be 9 year old daughter. Keeping a shotgun that I routinely clean out on my porch and locking her up and not allowing her out to meet boys (I know how I WAS at age 14...) is unfortunately NOT the answer (not that I can guarantee I won't...)

This is not something parents can "control", so much as perhaps to be open and talk with said child and hopefully there will be open communication and maybe even (gasp!!!) education. If you want to try clamping the chains down, the child will never TELL you that they do this... but it will happen (to like 90% or more). I don't care the arguements that you throw at me, you CANNOT watch them all the time, and you won't be able to guarantee that this doesn't happen. But if you can keep the ability to talk... you might prevent a disaster.

BTW, for the sake of any arguements that might be thrown my way, I am NOT a child psychologist; just a father of one and someone who talks to ppl all the time and has heard some CRAZY stories from ppl who pulled crazy stuff in thier young life (two examples of these ppl are: a sexually active 11 year old girl and a different girl who said she "got some" at SCHOOL of all places...)

I am not saying that it is right, but I don't think there's much else you can do (And I don't think killing them is the answer, either).
