WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Former chief U.S. arms hunter David Kay has concluded Iraq had no stockpiles of biological and chemical weapons, a potential embarrassment for President Bush, and Secretary of State Colin Powell said on Saturday it was an open question if they'd be found.

Anyone remember the "Where are the apologies?" thread from the old war forum?

Well, I won't be asking any fellow forum dwellers for an apology, but I probably should expect one from Bush, Blair, Cheney, Powell, and any and all others who took us to war mainly upon the steadfast claims of Saddam's WMD stockpiles and his willingness to use them and sell them terrorists.

After all....We should all have enough character to admit when we are wrong.

edit-I forgot the poodle.

IMO the only people the "B Team" should apologize to are the Iraqi people AND our American & Ally soldiers doing the dirty work. Several months of warring hell and it still ain't over yet.

Even all this time after Bush declared an end to combat?

I don't like this. I don't like any of it. I feel like our country and its young people are being used as playing pieces in some international board game and I don't trust any of the players. Especially Bush. For someone who went AWOL, he's awfully willing to put other peoples' lives on the line... He inspires an angry indignation in me that few other figures can.

As usual the righteous demand for apologies thread makes me smile. I have to say though I always thought there would be WoMD in Iraq, of course I was deceived, I fell for Blair's "ready in 45 minutes" line (makes him sound like a chinese takeaway). I don't want to reopen that debate, I'll just chalk it up to experience.

What intrigued me about that thread was this. It evolved into a justification for and against war in Iraq. In the five pages of that thread nobody suggested we should go to war to free the Iraqis from a despotic regime. That idea seems to have seeped into our psyche as the search for WoMD wound down.

Just when did the reason for war become a humanitarian one? Can someone put a date on it?

Thanks for the link Chewbacca!
I had been looking for this thread and couldn't find it at all.

I'm brewing a pot of coffee and going to read every page. Nostalgia at its best. Oh the irony of it all!

I'm about 4 pages into the apology thread and I'm relieved that I was wrong in regards to my thinking there actually were WoMD in Iraq. Because of my opposition to the War, it makes it alot easier to still be against it.

No, it's a demurrer. This discussion is as pointless as balrogs and wings, there is no clear home-run or slam dunk for either size (sorry for the USA baseball/basketball metaphors). We can circle jerk the topic again all we want, but at the moment I'd rather do more interesting things.

i have no intention of reopening the WoMD debate. I just want to know when the goalposts were moved (sorry for the football metaphore) to include saving the poor Iraqis. It seems to have been introduced later in the debate for some reason.

Anuyway - I can understand you not wanting to revisit the question.

Anyone else? batter-UP!
