Hospital Says Hinckley Poses No Dangers Hospital Psychiatrist Says Hinckley Poses No Dangers; Should Be Allowed Unsupervised Trips The Associated Press WASHINGTON Nov. 26 — The man who wounded President Reagan is ready to leave a psychiatric hospital for unsupervised visits with his parents, a hospital psychiatrist said Wednesday, testifying that John Hinckley Jr. no longer poses a danger to himself or others. Paul Montalbano, pretrial chief of forensic services at St. Elizabeths Hospital, said Hinckley is ready to begin the visits under conditions that government experts have recommended. Hinckley, 48, has been a patient at St. Elizabeths since he was acquitted by reason of insanity in the shootings of Reagan and three others outside a Washington hotel in March 1981. Hinckley said he shot the president to impress actress Jodie Foster. Montalbano testified during the fourth and final day of a hearing on Hinckley's request to make the unsupervised visits. Friedman has not indicated when he will make a decision. The Reagan family opposes Hinckley's latest request. Sarah Brady, wife of Reagan press secretary James Brady, who was badly wounded in the attack, also expressed concerns in a letter to the court that Friedman released Wednesday. "We do fear for our safety," Mrs. Brady wrote. "He ruined Jim Brady's life once. We don't want him to do so again either physically or emotionally."

Does Montalbano need a boot to the skull or what? Hinckley should be locked up and the key thrown away. Isn't Sirhan Sirhan still in jail where he belongs? Anyone heard from Squeaky Fromme lately?

it bothers me that people get up in arms about the high profile cases without any concern for the thousands of no-name victims who've put up with similar injustices in the past.

people kill, rape, kidnap, and/or torture other people, claim insanity, and then go on to be released after a bit of time/therapy all the time. you just never hear about it because their victims are not presidents, but everyday janes and joes like you 'n me.

i'm not saying that makes the system right. i am saying that is the system.

instead of railing about hinkley, how bout calling for tougher sentencing for so-called "insane" defendents? or, get off john's back, cuz the system society endorses says it's time to give him another chance.
