First off, my heart goes out to the mother of these children. I can only imagine how much agony and grief she must be in.
Second, what a sicko, I don't like the custody arrangement because I won't get to see my kids enough, so I'm going to kill them? What kind of deranged logic is that?
I hate hate hate hearing of parents who kill there kids. There are so many couples out there that are desperate for a child, if you really don't want your kids that much, give them to someone that will cherish and love them.

How can an act of love end that badly ?
I sometimes wonder if it could happen to me ... I mean, if I could some day lose sanity enough to kill the ones I love ... this guy is not sane !

Moiraine, if you think about it and worry about it, chances are it won't happen to you! I too, have trouble imagining how anyone could do such things. It's hard to believe they could be that far gone to hurt or kill a child of their own or any family member, but yet we see it in the news alot.

Is this a new thing? Is society somehow creating this in people or is just that we hear more because it's reported more often?

It was a selfish, sadistic act made to deny the mother of her children and punish everyone involved. He's a filthy sociopath!

This is a good example of why pride is deemed the deadliest sin (and envy is on the hit list too).

The father starts out loving his children, quite naturally he also takes pride in them and prides himself being a good father to them.

Now, due to some circumstances the father is kept from being a father for his children 24/7 (or at least he thinks so). This might be due to normal circumstances like a marriage breaking up or the reasons might be more sinister.

Anyway his (hurt) pride as a parent takes over and clouds his love for his children. He fathoms that if he is not allowed to be the parent for the children no one else should be and thus does the only logical action.

I disagree -- there is nothing logical at all here.

If only every sicko parent like this could have sicko kids like the Menendez Brothers. That would be true justice -- and irony.

You misunderstand me. Of course it is not very logical in the end, but it is the most logical solution when you have forgotten anything but your hurt pride.

I don't think that would be true pride then. If you're truly have pride, then you wouldn't lose your pride when you don't get to be with them all the time. You'd still have pride, even when they aren't there with you, because just because you're children aren't with you doesn't mean you're not still a parent, that you can't still have an impact in their lives.
This is a simple act of selfishness, same as Susan Smith.

Indemaijinj, Harleyquinn, 'pride' and 'selfishness' are emotions that a reasonably sane human being can feel. I don't think there is a name for whatever emotions the guy was feeling - the guy is a far away from sanity as we are from the Moon.
