Democrat: Bush Official Wanted Iraq Claim

By Ken Guggenheim
The Associated Press
Thursday, July 17, 2003; 10:32 AM

excerpt-
Quote:
WASHINGTON -- CIA Director George Tenet told members of Congress a White House official insisted that President Bush's State of the Union address include an assertion about Saddam Hussein's nuclear intentions that had not been verified, a Senate Intelligence Committee member said Thursday.
The funny thing about this is that back in the runup the war there were lots of downplayed stories about the Administration presuring CIA analysts to 'interpet' the intelligence to support the war. Now it seems they went even farther then that.

Here is the statement that is causing so much hubbub: "The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa." 2003 State of the Union speach. http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/relea...030128-19.html

President Bush DID NOT SAY "the CIA has learned", or "Our Government has learned". He said the "British government has learned". The British government stands by it's assesment of the intelligence that they recieved from differant sources then the forged papers that the press and the Democratic leadership are talking about.
