Just heard on the radio that Astrid Lindgren died

For those of you who don't really know who she is, she is the one that wrote Pippi Longstocking, among other things..
She probarbly wrote hundreds of beatiful childrens stories, she is the most read writer in Sweden, and she was the most loved person in the whole of Sweden..
Her books have been translated into over 80 languages..
She has also supported animals' rights, women's rights and she has paid for several childrens hospitals..
And now she's dead, 94 years old..

Wow! I feel really stupid but I didn't know she was still alive...
I loved Pippi as a kid, and I've read many of her other stories as well (in translation of course

). Well Regin, if she died at 94 leaving such a legacy and having done so many good things I think it softens the loss for a bit.

But no one really thought she could die..
Well..you know what I mean, the thought was just so far away!
The fact that the story wouldn't end happily, as Göran Persson (the prime minister of Sweden) said, is so hard to grip..
She was like a god..

I understand... it often comes as a shock when a loved person dies, even when they were really old and it was to be expected. I felt the same about my grandmother - the thought that she might die soon never even occured to me when she was still here, and now she's been dead for almost two years.
Wow - I really understand how it must be for the Swedish now... like the loss of an icon...

I've also learnt it. It is really very tragic. I've read lots of her stories and I liked most of them. As Mel said, I am sure that she lived a very good life doing good things.

She wrote so many great stories, my fave was "My brother Lionheart" (not sure about the correct name in english but thats the translation of the Icelandic version)
Now that was fantasy...

I was actually raised on thoose books as a kid...

It is a sad day here in Sweden, Astrid is one of thoose writers that has been a joy for kids around the world...

I hope she has lived a happy life and have known alot of joy in her days, she is certainly worth it for all thoose hours of joy she has brought to kids worldwide.

At least she lived a happy life, did good things and lived to a ripe old age.

My Brother Lionheart! I loved that book! Sad to hear that Astrid Lindgren is gone, but at least she lived 94 years!
