Just been plodding through this game for about a week now.. But I was wondering if there is an ingame bestiary??? Something you can look up and see what you are fighting and why the party cant hurt it..eg "shadow".. or "clay golem"... Or find anything out about Mephits??

I fought a battle against a character in the first dungeons.. and the pop-up description just had her "name/injured", then later in a walkthrough i found out she was a vampire???. how can you tell?

I want to know more about what I'm fighting against...

I used to play D&D about 12 years ago, so i am a bit rusty..

**Reality Mode: I suppose realising you cant hurt something is half the point, but what you learn about the monster should go into the characters journal as an automatic entry.

First and foremost: WELCOME TO IRONWORKS!!!!!

Now then, yes, I am ALMOST sure there is a book that has what you need. (maybe the big official walkthough thingy? Although I don't know if thats really what you want.) Ummm... well seeing as how I cannot really help you I will reasure you instead. You begin to identify enimies by what they look like on the screen in less than a month, so you eventually won't be confused...

BTW: did u disable smilies on this post cause i couldn't get any... hmmm...

Thankyou.. I dont think I disabled 'smilie faces'... I know now that swords, bows etc cant hurt shadows.. I used the druids 'shillengah' (sp?) and it disposed of it pretty easily.. So I assume only magic items can hurt them.. Maybe I need to buy the 3d ed Monster Compendium.. (Mephits) dont seem to be in 2nd ed one I have.

Only really just started, slow going attention to detail type of game at the moment. I have just got inside the circus tent, and bumped into a Werewolf and shadow... Great game so far anyway.. seems huge. My previuos love of D&D has been resurrected..

Seems a lot of pausing and looking up what the symbol on my character means... fun anyway

And yes BGII is BIG... and (IMHO)the best crpg out there. I have spent WAY too much of my life cooped up in my house playing that game.

Guess w/my browser messing up I will improvise!

WHOA!!! I DIDNT KNOW THAT IF YOU TYPED THEM IN IT DID THE SAME THING AS THE BUTTONS!!! YES!!!!

Oh yes I forgot in my moment of madness there, (this is game info BTW and it is not a spoiler.) Shadows are immune to REGULAR weapons. plus weapons (ones that have been enchanted) can hurt them. And hurt them gooood.

The reason u cant hurt Shadows is because u need +1 weapons or better But u can only hurt clay golems with blunt weapons

AD&D Monster Manuals may not help much. BGII is based off 2nd Edition rules, so if mephits aren't in there, you may have to look at a Forgotten Realms setting book. that's really expensive, so just play around in the game and die a few times until you figure it out. it's fun that way, too. you feel better if you figure stuff out by yourself and finish a battle with 1 hp than if you use someone else's strategy and come out unharmed.

If you are looking for a walk-through book "Bible" on SoA one is published by Versus Books. It has a great walk-through with maps and even info on monsters with assistence on how to kill them. I hope this helps.

You could probably pick it up online at Gamestop.com or any Computer store. It is my bible, I don't start a game without it.

Personaly I aviod walk-throughs like the plauge... they give away everything that happens, tell you all of the secrets so you arn't surprised, and make it so you are essentially playing the walkthough artist's game. Just on your PC... and where is the fun in that?
