I recently heard about an item in TOB called the Big metal unit but i noticed that no one talks about it much. Does anyone know anything about this?

Spoiler
~ ~ ~ ~ It is part of the Pantaloon Quest. The reason why most people do not talk about it is because it requires three pantaloons from three games( and not many people have all three, or are patient enough to play through all three). Baldur's Gate 1( Gold Pantaloons), BG2_SoA( Silver Pantaloons), BG2_ToB( Bronze Pantaloons) Collect all three and go to a Dwarven smith in the desert town in ToB. He will create the BMU and several weapons for you. |

As an aside, the pantaloons collected in BG1 WILL import into BG2.

Piestrider, WELCOME TO IRONWORKS You guys, I happen to know that he already has two of the pantaloons. Carson, I'll show you where the dwarven smith is in TOB.

Actually, the smith who assembles a Big Metal Unit out of three pairs of metallic garments is a Gnome. Creating wierd but useful items from just plain wierd components seems to be an inborn trait of that race.
But aside from this utterly useless piece of information I have absolutely nothing to add to this thread. EDIT: D'oh! Of course I have... welcome, Piestrider. ![]() [ 03-01-2002: Message edited by: J'aran ] |

What are the stats of the BMU, where are all the pantaloons and what are the CLUAConsole codes for the pantaloons or the BMU?

MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . >The Golden Pantaloons (MISC47) are given to you by some pan(t)sy nobleman who thinks you're the laundryboy/girl in the Friendly Arm Inn in BG1. The Silver Pantaloons (MISC5O - the letter O, not the number 0) is the reward for doing the quest concerned with Tirdir's kidnappers the evil way, in SoA. The Bronze Pantalettes (MISCCB) are given to you by the three 1st level adventurers if you let them get the Beholder's eye for you in the Dragon's Lair in ToB. The Big Metal Unit (SECRTET05) basically turns your character into an Iron Golem. Not sure of the precise bonuses, but it gives a tremendous boost to AC, among other things. The Big Metal Rod (SECRET01) is a crossbow that can be used to fire the three special types of ammunition that comes with the Unit and the Rod. The Pulse Ammunition (SECRET02) lets the BMR fire Magic Missiles at a rate of 5 attacks per round. The Frag Grenade (SECRET03) lets the BMR fire Skull Traps. And finally, the Scorcher Ammunition (SECRET04) lets the BMR fire something like Aganazzar's Scorcher. |

and just to add... The Big Metal Unit has a base AC of -10... maybe I expected too much... but honestly... I was more annoyed by having this iron golem size party memeber who couldn't fit in some of the smaller rooms well... I eventually just took it off... and i don't think it sells for much... I guess with the build up, it would be hard to make a payoff. Reminds me of when they over build pro-wrestling matches...
