Well, this is cool. I was just running through the swamp when I ran into the dark savant ( literally ). But before he could speak the monsters that were chasing me initiated a battle.
So now the ds is sitting directly in between my party and a bunch of millipeeds. One of the millipeeds just hit him for 2 damage with one of those flying boogers. Now I'm thinkin I could kill this guy like I kill Bela ( with indirect fire ) and snatch his cobaltine power glove ( listed as 100% drop on flamestrykes ). It would take a while, naturally. I am just wondering since I have seen no posts here or on any other board about this, so is there something here I am missing? Can this be done? Has anyone done it? Also if I spawn him but run away real quick so he doesn't give his little speech can I leave the area and come back with him still there? Might be helpfull since I am pretty low level and I doubt if I could even touch him yet ( hes level 25 im level 7 ). |

It was mentioned waaaaay back (like when the game was first being discussed), but nobody would actually say "i did it". I'm sure it's possible, though, as you have shown. You can probably help the millies do it by Supering them...
As far as wandering off is concerned: I was running through the swamp once and accidentally triggered him; you still get engaged in conversation, just like if you run past Myles. (you can get pretty far from Myles if your slowest "look who's here" speaker gets picked, but you still get stopped and turned around into convo mode) You can also get the glove much later on AP by tearing the page, then killing Bela first, then the Savant and running out of the scene; you then have to get into a combat before the controls return to normal--then go back to get the glove. But the game is already "over" by then... [ 06-01-2005, 12:49 AM: Message edited by: Scatter ] |

I see.
A little correction to my above post. It turns out I had saved and reloaded before he got a chance to speak ( just retried it ). When he appears if you are quick ( and lucky ) you can save the game, then reload it and the DS will just sit there even if you talk to him. You can even leave the map and he will still be there. I bought a bunch of double shot slings and impaling stones from crock and equipped them on my 8 character party. I hit him, but not often enough ( like once in every 30 shots ). I am going to wait a bit till I can get to ferro and get some real ammo. There is a problem though, I really want the COC for my fairy ninja. If I kill the Don the DS won't appear in the swamp right? |

You don't ever even need to have the Savant appear. The only reason to get the Fake AD is if you don't want to kill the Mook. I haven't triggered the Savant in the swamp for dozens of games now. If you can kill the Don, you'll be able to kill all the Mook.
oh, you saved, before the script was activated, reloaded and it didn't trigger? And you can hit him? THAT's new.....to me at least. Hmmm. Time to get a Powerglove! oh, wait, more response necessary...no, i don't think the Savant would disappear if you trigger him, do the save/relaod thing, THEN kill the Don...and go back--maybe you'll be able to hit the Savant with the Cane! "oh, you saved, before the script was activated, reloaded and it didn't trigger? And you can hit him?"
Ya, sometimes there is maybe 1-3 seconds before he initiates his speech and leaves. Within that time if you save and reload he just sits there ( forever from what I can tell ). I was wondering what happens when you actually kill him ( he has like 1000 hp ). I thought maybe someone here knew. I managed to hit him with impaling stones for about 15 damage, so he can be hurt, and monsters shooting at me have hit him for damage. Problem is, I couldn't see his health ( maybe not enough in mythology ), so I can't tell if hes regenerating. **Edit* I should mention, he is untargetable like Bela, so you have to use the same method to kill him ( indirect fire )* [ 06-01-2005, 03:25 AM: Message edited by: TinyMage ] |

To use "indirect fire" do you have to lure a monster group close to your target? And wouldn't you kill off the monster group long before your "missed" shots would kill your target?

No and no.
You can summon an elemental and target it in the same round ( continuous combat ) for an enemy ( best to paralyze it somehow ), and you can heal it if it gets low on health. Of course, if you get an instakill, you just have to summon a new one. |

How many HP does the Dark Savant have in the swamp? Does it even say? And does he have the same AC as he does in the Cosmic Circle because if he does it's going to take forever for incidental fire to kill him.
Still, I am left wondering what would happen if you did kill him in the swamp. Would he still appear at the end of the game? xfactor |

I imagine he would. There are a few NPC's you can kill twice or more, if they have a second location they meet you at. Al-Adryian, Bela, Al-Sedexus, all are like that. Also, if you look at them in the Cosmic Forge editor, they show as multiple entries, one for each place they appear.
I've never heard of it being tried, but i imagine Altheides is on this list as well. |
