Hi everybody, my name is Shadowhound and I am a gameaholic.
I have been addicted to gaming for years, but thats not the problem. Apparently I have some odd gaming habits, which I would love to get off my chest.

I hoard
Seriously, if you give me a weapon that can only be used once you may as well not give it to me, I will never use it. Why? The same reason that I hoard everything else I might need it later I can't count the amount of times I have finished a game with a pile of equipment that I could have used.
Dues Ex - I was carrying a pile of weapons that I could of used, should have used, but decided to save it for later... just in case
Diablo 2 - I have a chest full of mostly perfect gems, I dont want to waste them because I might need them later.
Baldur's Gate 2: My collection of potions is apparently scary to some people, I have seen small children be hypnotised by all the different coloured potions that are jammed into the NPC's backpacks. But I dont use them, you know why.

Speaking of Baldur's Gate 2, in several games my hoarding habits have kicked in. My thief had approx 100 different pieces of armor stashed around Ahm... just in case. Who knows, maybe one day you are robbed and left with nothing... but do not fear for I have secretly stashed 4 leather armor and a full plate +1 in that barrel over there for just this type of emeregency! You never know, one day you may be needing to raise an army, just make your way to my thief stronghold and you will discover enough weapons and armor to arm the entire of the sword coast. Just in case.

But thats not the worst part of it

The thing is when I hoard I like things to be organised. This is not something that carries over from my real life, hell you could probably lose Elminster (and his hat), Drizzt and Bohdi in my room and never find them under the layers of crap. But in Diablo 2 all my gems are sorted into type, quality and value. Each is carefully arranged in my hoard for maximum effeciency. Hell if the gold coins in Diablo 2 were marked and dated I would sort them out into the year they were made before I put them into my hoard. Why? Just so they would be properly organised.

Baldurs Gate 2 also suffers from my hoarding perfection, the bookcase in the thief guild (which now holds about the same amound of books as Candlekeep) in sorted out alphabetically. My potions are sorted by shape and colour... hell even the NPC's are organised by their class in my party.

...I still have the key to Jahiera's cell, just in case I ever need to go back. Laugh all you want but one day we may be adventuring together back into Johnny boy's dungeon and we may find someone locked in the cage. You will not be laughing when I bust out the key and free them. I admit I still have Aerie's baby locked in a chest somewhere... I dont know why but I am sure it will prove to be useful.

I am sure that there is more that I have to rant about but at the moment I have to find a place to put Kangaxx's Torso that won't mess up my organisational system.

PS - This has been overdramatised for your amusement

I admit, I have the same problem. Not even a final boss fight can convince me to start drinking those potions, using those wands, or scrolls, or anything with limited uses for that matter.
Give me a Rod of Boss Slaying with 1000 charges, show me as many walkthroughs saying there's really absolutely definately nothing more to the game once I win this final confrontation I have reached, and I'll still use a sharp stone to beat the badguy senseless because, you know, if I use that rod I only have 999 charges left. I'll run out before I know it, and then what? Waste all those other perfectly good, limited use items too?

This problem does sound very very familiar to a conversation I had with a friend in a multiplayer game some time ago.

What people need to do is a bit of planning. though I admit that it's quite hard to tell beforehand which item will be use on a particular situation. However, go play the game again several times and you can know which item to keep and which to throw away.

I used to think it was just me. Every game, my party (or solo char) would be loaded down with all sorts of goodies at the end. I held on to all the stuff because "I'm gonna need it for the next big fight".

Somehow, the game would end and there I'd be, waiting for that "next big fight" to use up all those magic items. It was sorta embarrassing.

But in talking to other gamer friends, I found they did the exact same thing! I was not alone after all! This packrat habit must be a hallmark of the hardcore gamer.

However, have to admit, I'm not too big on organizing

You never know what you might need on a rainy day...

In all the RPGs I have played, I never used a single expendable non-buyable item, just in case I might need them later on...

Not even against the last boss...

It's not related, but here's something funny. Back when I first played Parasite Eve, they said that when you used your Mycocondria, you became more of a mutant or whatever it was called and could eventually control you or something. I was thinking that if I used my powers too much, I might get a worse ending or something. The result? I never used a single power ever in that game. It sure made it a lot harder... No healing, nothing...

Yeah, I have this problem, too. I had so many mule for D2, it was very, very sad. Try trading a bloodletter on Bnet. You can get pretty much, crap! Never used potions in BG1 or 2, either. Maybe we should have a "Hoarders Anonymus?"

Hahahaha, wow, this is exactly my problem, I always conserve things, even if I know that they will help and can be replaced...
